La Di Tella è un’automobile prodotta a Buenos Aires dall’azienda fondata da Torcuato Di Tella nel 1911, che iniziò l’attività con impastatrici di pane per poi passare a elettrodomestici come frigoriferi e lavatrici. Nel 1948 importò 2000 Lambretta tipo A, più difficili da vendere in Italia e presto cominciò a produrla su licenza col nome Siambretta. Questa attività proseguì fino al 1970, con 200.000 esemplari venduti. La produzione di auto ebbe inizio sul finire del 1959, su licenza BMC e precisamente una Riley 4/68 di 1500cc, modificata con un solo carburatore e meno potente. Fu molto popolare fra i tassisti e venne prodotta fino al 1966 in quasi 61.500 unità, comprese le Station Wagon e dei piccoli pick up (che non erano compresi nella produzione inglese). Gli impianti furono ceduti alla IKA ma quando questa fu acquisita da Renault nel 1967, la produzione fu cessata definitivamente.
The Di Tella is
a car produced in Buenos Aires by the company founded by Torcuato Di Tella in
1911, which started the business with bread kneading machines and then switched
to appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines. In 1948 he imported
2000 Lambretta type A, which was more difficult to sell in Italy and soon began
to produce it under license with the name Siambretta. This activity continued
until 1970, with 200,000 units sold. Car
production began in late 1959, under the BMC license, namely a 1500cc Riley
4/68, modified with a single carburetor and less powerful. It was very popular
with taxi drivers and was produced until 1966 in almost 61,500 units, including
station wagons and small pick-up trucks (which were not included in English
production). The assembly lines were sold to IKA but when this one was acquired
by Renault in 1967, production was permanently discontinued.
The Salvat publishing house has distributed in Spain an interesting collection in 1:24 scale with the name Coches Inolvidables. There are 70 subjects in die-cast metal in 1:24 scale.
